The Chai Tea Latte is incredible too. It makes not only single cups of coffee, but cappuccinos that is as good as your local Starbucks. I wouldn't even bother with any other coffee maker. I couldn't live without this coffee maker. The Tassimo is the best. The variety of beverages and brands like Starbucks and Gevalia that you can purchase for the tassimo is unbeatable.
I bought this and I bought a Keurig and I kept the Keurig and sold the Tassimo. It was easier finding the K-Cups for the Keurig in retail stores and there were more flavor options and I just liked the way it looked on the counter better.
Final straw: the "reader" is not shot, so it does not work automatically. is annoying. Once that goes it does not pay to fix. I purchached one of the original Tassimo models in 2006 - it's been good, but not great. I never seem to have a cup that is hot enough, and quite honestly - not being able to fit a cup larger than 8 oz. This is the devise that flashes and reads the bar code of the pod - and it's the downfall of the system.
The one at the bottom of the water tank in the Tassimo gets dirty quickly and is hard to find and EXPENSIVE to replace.Get the Keurig. Thank me later. No weird cup of water to empty every single time you make a cup of coffee like Tassimo. Awesome. No more waking up your guests when you want a cup of joe.The design of the KEURIG machine is far superior too. If you are thinking of buying this for someone, don't do it.I owned a Tassimo for years, and I only recently was able to replace it (with the awesome KEURIG K-Cup coffee maker). The reasons why I don't like the Tassimo machine are because it is SUPER LOUD when making coffee, and because the selection of their coffee in stores is absolutely horrible. The KEURIG machine is far superior because there is a far greater selection of their coffee cups in stores (Target, Stop + Shop, Bed Bath and Beyond, etc) and because it is WHISPER QUIET when it makes coffee. Not only is it dead quiet, but there's no "leaky bottom" - the machine takes the water it needs to get rid of and puts it BACK in the water tank. AND - there is NO water filter to replace in the KEURIG.
If you're looking for authentic Cappucino or lattes, you might want to look elsewhere. I just found that I much prefer to use the espresso shots in their own glory. I found the foaming milk discs that come with the cappuchino/latte packs to suffer from a condensed/ powdered milk taste. My only other observation of the machine is that it can take a bit long to warm up , it stays in the yellow lighted "Heating" mode sometimes for a good five minutes before you get the green light use the machine. The strengths are in its ability to make regular brewed coffee, and espresso shots.
For someone like myself who likes Americanos and rich brewed coffee, the machine is ideal. The "foam" they produce is rather watery-tasting and thin. The espresso shots are correctly poured using the auto-mode, turn out with a nice crema, and do have a nice rich flavor like a barrista would serve. Overall this machine is good. The best serving suggestion (in my opinion) is an "Americano" (adding two shots to a mug of hot water).
I have not tried the hot chocolate discs, but imagine they would be quite good, as well as the chai tea as well.
